Avoid The Horror of Losing Your Phone

Did you ever experience losing your mobile phone? It is one of the worst feelings right? Let me tell you about what happened to me. It is definitely one of my worst experiences ever.

On being mobile

First of all, I have an iPhone and I use this device a lot. I actually even work on it. There are apps that make me work literally anywhere. It is pretty amazing. Plus, it syncs well with my computer.

Going mobile actually has a number of downsides. One of them is bringing a lot of sensitive information everywhere. You will be literally carrying personal and mostly confidential information with you. So, it really requires extra care.

What really happened

Going back to my story, it was one fine work day when I was browsing and sneaking a few hours of work while riding on a train. I usually do this all the time. It allows me to make use of such idle time for work. However, that day was different from the usual. Upon arriving on my destination, I hurried to get out of the train as I was running late. It was there that I tried locating the phone on my pocket because I had to call someone from the office. It was gone. I could not find it anywhere on the bags I was carrying. I was really shocked and worried. Imagine all the personal and confidential information that came with it.

I tried to remain calm and tried to think of ways to try to recover the phone. I was thinking of going through the process of recovering and finding it. But, I knew that would take too long. I could not afford exposing all the information in it right at that moment to anyone who is in possession of it.

Recovering the phone

It was then that I suddenly remembered that I actually have installed a mobile spy program in it. It was a life saver! I took a sigh of relief. I knew that was the only option I have at that moment. So, I rushed to my computer and opened up the control panel to where all the information on my phone is monitored.

If you still are not familiar with such software, these programs actually help people monitor or 'spy' phones. Once installed on the phone, all the information and activities on the phone can be accessed. The information that can be tracked are as follows:

- Phone calls

- Text messages

- Emails

- Web browsing history

- Pictures taken and videos recorded

- Location

All of these information can be accessed through one online account that can be opened on any computer with an internet connection. It gives you the option to be notified of certain activities on the phone and even recent changes. However, what helped me at that time was the remote wipe feature. This feature allowed me to lock down the phone and delete all the data in it. I did not have to worry about losing all of them. I still have a backup on my computer anyway. That totally saved me from all my worries.

Lesson learned

Looking back at what happened, I am really thankful I was able to prepare for the event to happen ahead. I almost forgot I had a useful tool installed. I am just glad I was able to take advantage of it at the time I least expected to.

Losing your phone is really such a hassle. The best thing you could do now is to prevent it to happen. Or, maybe at least make certain preparations for you not to worry that much when it happens to you.

I was able to recover the phone by the way. I don't know if some random stranger tried to access it earlier. All I saw when I got the phone was that it had no data in it.
